I have not bought this book but you can already see that something is wrong by looking at the free "Look inside" pages. I have not found one single correct example!
Just by reviewing the "look inside" before purchasing the book you can see TONS of errors in the German translations. Anybody who has already studied that language for more than an hour will easily see through the author's apparent method of copying and pasting from Google Translate. (Actually, the book makes a lot of errors that GT doesn't.)
Examples of English language 'skills' and historical knowledge about Germany
"Germany targeted France and Russia before the reforms are made to secure their dominance over the west, such succeeding sparkled World War I that ended in 1918 and Germany defeated." - Apart from the sentence structure, I guess the author meant 'sparked' and not 'sparkled'...
"Mein Kampf was written while thousands of military infantry died in the battle field and a thousand more Jews was sacked mercilessly in many concentration camps and gas tanks- one of the most tragic events in human kind- the holocaust." - Adolf Hitler wrote his book long before the start of WW2 and the Holocaust (which killed more than a thousand Jews).
and my all time favorite
"High German or what we call Hochdeutsch is the spoken dialect of the highlands of southern German." - a) Hochdeutsch, also called Schriftdeutsch, is simply Standard German (not a dialect!), spoken in ALL parts of Germany. b) Standard German developed in the NORTH of Germany. c) There are no Highlands in Germany, that term is used in Scotland.

"Documents- das Unterlagen" - Unfortunately that should be die Unterlagen (plural), or die Unterlage (singular). If the author makes such a mistake in a paragraph expressively dedicated to the subject - What does this tell us about the author's linguistic skills?
Summary If you speak both English and German, this book is good for many laughs. If you want to learn German - stay far away from this book!
ex.
"Please to meet you" (instead of pleased), translated into "Bitte, sie zu treffen". Bitte is used to say you're welcome or please. The typo has been directly translated in german which shows that the author has absolutely no knowledge of german and used google translate to get it.
" Do you speak english?" translated in "Haben Sie Englisch sprechen?. The right one should have been "Sprechen Sie Deutsch?".
"Haben Sie Englisch sprechen?" does not mean anything, its closest translation would be "Do you have English to speak?".
The author does not speak a word of german and this book is just a tourist trap.
After a short but accurate introduction to some geographical and historical data about Germany and some of its dialects, you will stumble upon a lot of chapters/lessons which are gradually evolving regarding difficulty. This book covered the basics of German language and its grammar and it will most definitely fulfill its purpose.
I am travelling to Germany in August of this year and wanted a quick and easy way to learn German. This book is great. The book includes a geographical history about the country and it's customs. The book is full of strategies to help you learn effectively such as memorizing through using the 80/20 rule, setting up a quiet study area and talking with others. A great short book to learn the basic of German. Auf Wiedersehen !
